Mr & Ms NORSU 2009

A Glimpse of the Future!

The culture of Filipinos is forever linked to beauty pageants. In this nation, beauty pageants have penetrated all levels of society, from the national level down to the smallest barangay or purok, even educational institutions. But what specifically is the purpose of the beauty pageant? World Peace? Some say it provides and opportunity to showcase the best qualities of the community or institution being represented. In NORSU, such is the case.

Originally called the “Mutya ng CVPC”, the pageant has expanded to include the male of the species and was then called “Mr. and Ms. CVPC.” With the conversion of Central Visayas Polytechnic College to Negros Oriental State University, it is now “Mr. and Ms. NORSU.” The contestants of the pageant are rigorously screened and selected on the basis of physical and intellectual attributes and considered as the best that each college/campus can offer. From among them, people of impeccable integrity and judgment choose who are the male and female specimens that can best represent NORSU.

The pageant, fortunately, is not all about physical and intellectual excellence; it is also about service. Before the contest proper, contestants, with the assistance of the pageant organizer, the NORSU – Federation of Student Governments, conduct extension and outreach projects to the marginalized sectors of the society. Mr. and Ms. NORSU projects include providing assistance to orphanages and depressed communities. These activities ensure that those who will eventually win the title of Mr. and Ms. NORSU will not only treat it as a matter of pomp and prestige, but also social responsibility and service.

Through this, the Mr. and Ms. NORSU program selects the individual that really embodies the core essence of the institution and is representative of NORSU’s culture of excellence and culture of service. The pageant therefore is not just part of our culture, but our culture also becomes a part of the pageant.

Mini-Karaoke

When the Japanese make gadgets, they sure know what gadgets will bring in the Yen.
Introducing the portable karaoke machine, the Hi-Kara measures a diminutive 2.75-inch cube with a 2.4-inch screen and will pack in 10 downloaded songs per cartridge, while the microphone-headset lets you sing and listen to songs without any bloodshed from anyone having to listen to your rendition of Frank Sinatra’s undying My Way. Unfortunately, the Hi-Kara will only be available by October and still in Japanese, but we’ll give a few months ‘til the US starts releasing its own version then maybe we’ll start seeing the end of the iPod’s reign.

Visplore on VTP 9 (Bugs? or Just the features?)

After I installed the VTP 9 on my PC I found some bugs on the program and I also admire some. To discuss further, when clicking on the My Computer icon on my desktop the so called Visplore program cannot activate or an error occurs saying that report the bug to the internet but then I discovered that you need to set the program to “Default File Manager” by clicking on the Visplore small icon on the task bar. It is so annoying and hassle to always click on that icon every time you turn on your computer in order for you to experience the Vista-like Explorer Software (Visplore). It came into my mind asking my self; is it a bug or just a part of the program? My suggestion is putting it to default and put the program into the machine start-up.

To make it fair, I also admire some new 3rd party programs included on this software. I really like the Rainmeter, winflip, and Vistart.
Rainmeter only uses less memory and fast to appear in the start-up. It is also very usefull on my desktop and I really like the picture slideshow.


Winflip is also great it’s the resemblance of the Vista Alt+tab feature and the graphics is good when you use it. And finally for the Vistart thank God I can now search files and programs with it and by its new Feature wich is you can now select which drive you can index helps me a lot. Thanks to the makers of this and of course Windows X.

VTP 9 Released

After a long time of waiting. VTP 9 is officially released. VTP 9 or the so called “Vista Transformation Pack v.9” Latest version is a software that lets you change the appearance of your boring XP environment to a vista like operating system. With this latest version, all the bugs are not fully fixed yet but in fairness it is better than the previous version.

BlackBerry Storm 9500

RIM's BlackBerry Storm 9500 / 9530, which is more affectionately known 'round these parts as the Thunder, is definitely within striking distance. Still, just because you don't have too much longer to wait doesn't mean you aren't anxious to get your hands on as many details as possible beforehand, right? The Boy Genius has managed to procure a few mundane stacks of PowerPoint slides that just so happen to contain some pretty scrumptious information on the touchscreen-based BlackBerry, and while there aren't any mind-melting surprises in there (like, confirmation that it can indeed read and reply correctly to each e-mail automatically), it's not the kind of data any real RIM fan would want to overlook.
